BP Rhum Gas Field

Project Kick-start

Background
The Rhum gas field was discovered in the 1970s, but for nearly 30 years it was not technically viable to extract the gas due to the extreme conditions.  Only now has new technology made it possible to proceed and £280 million is being invested in the process by BP and their partners the Iranian Gas Company. people=positive™ were asked to help ensure that the Project Team were performing to their maximum capability from the word go.

Issue
How to ensure that a multi-cultural / multi-organisational team was able to quickly establish effective working relationships and a common language for safety and performance?

Solution
people=positive™ designed and delivered 2 team building events in June 2004, with 60 people attending each session.  Each group developed their own Success Map© to capture their vision, their values and their key areas of focus.  The output from both teams was then combined into one project-wide Success Map© that focused on achieving maximum performance through a culture of inclusion, planning and preparation.  Accelerated learning tools were used to fast track the process.

Results
The drilling was completed 17 days ahead of schedule! The team was able to work together from the start with a common language for safety and performance and in an environment of continuous improvement.

Jim Cowie, the Team Leader says:

“people=positive™ really worked well with the team during the sessions.  The way that experiential tasks were used to help the learning sink in was excellent and importantly we all had a lot of fun.  This was a really inspiring start to our journey.”
